The Limber desks have been called the "World's Healthiest Desks" by professor Galen Kranz from the University of Berkeley in California. But why?
1. Full Range of Motion
Limber Desks allow for the largest range of motion of any desk in the world. They go from standing to any height all the way down to the ground and back up. this is important because of the array of movement this unlocks. Allowing for the most postural diversity anyone can get at a desk.
2. Fast to Change Height
The second thing that's really important about dynamic desks is that they can move quickly. This is because we found when researching that the speed of movement affects how often people actually move.
A crank desk, for instance, 95% of people who have those don't change height because it takes over a minute to change the height. Electric desks, 80% of people don't change the height even though it's just pushing a button. That 10 to 20 seconds to change height gets us out of a flow state when we're working, and in the moment getting a job done will be prioritised over movement.
The Petal and Linear Limber Desks use a counterweight mechanism, which means they can move super quickly, less than two seconds to change height. No waiting for small motors to wind things up. The desktop will be where you want it before you can even be there, so you stay in flow and move automatically when you feel uncomfortable. How it should be!
3. Active Resting Postures
Limber Desks are the only desks that allow you to be on the floor as well as standing and the floor is where we have "active resting postures". These postures increase muscle activity in our legs just enough to keep our body metabolising fat and increasing blood flow to our brain, which means that we can focus more and problem solve better when working.
4. Specific to Your Body
All of the ergonomic features you hear about in desks, so your screen placement and where your keyboard is, are adaptable to suit your body and come built into a Limber desk. They're not extra purchases or other things that you need to make. We wanted to create one thing that would be shipped to you, and you'd have all of the features you need to set your screen up at the right height, have your keyboard at the right height, and live that double monitor life if you want to.
5. They're Beautiful + Sustainable
As well as all that they just look beautiful and are made sustainably. That's really important as well, because our health is only as good as the environments that we live in. So, if we built products from things that don't looking after the environment, we wouldn't actually be doing ourselves a service when we look long-term. And if its not beautiful, you're less likely to use it and it's more likely end up in landfill.
The health of the desk relates to its sustainability and with that, its good looks.
There you have it, all of the reasons that Limber desks have been called the "World's Healthiest Desks". They have the full range of motion, the speed of changing heights, active resting postures, it can fit your body perfectly, plus it's built sustainably and to look good.
8 out of 10 people get back pain in their life and back pain is the number one cause of disability, lost workplace productivity and income poverty. At Limber we are on a mission to halve that by 2050, and building the world's healthiest desks is just one part of the solution. We need your support to make that a reality.
